The 2020 US Election has been one of the most record-breaking election. Based on the analysis conducted by Catalist , there are few topline takeaways for the election results which we will be discussing in sections.
Turnout rate are calculated based on VEP* and VAP*. It shows the rate of eligible voters making their votes in the election. Looking at the bar chart below, we can see that 2020 has the highest turnout rate compared to previous elections.
The map below shows the VEP Turnout Rate in 2020 by each state in regards to their population. Minnesota has the highest turnout rate among 50 states at 79.6%.
Over the years, the voting electorate has continued to be more diverse than ever before and 2020 was the most racially diverse electorate ever. This was due to big turnout increase from the voters of colors, especially among Latino and AAPI* as compared to previous elections.
From the line chart above, we can see that the Non-Hispanic White Share of Electorate hit lowest peak at 2020 with 71.2% Share. This shows that the pool of voters are getting more racially diverse.
With percentage of Voters of Color (VOC*) increasing, we now look at the overall composition of voters, ranging from different Gender, Education and Racial aspect.
As the diagram above shows, the ratio of Non-College holds more share than College and that every Race has a fairly big share of Non college. However, we have yet gather enough insights to make any further conclusion hence we will be looking at Gender , next in line.
As we can see over the years, women votes continue to be prominent than of men. Having 54% as a share of voters in 2020, it shows how critical women votes are.

Here, we can see that out of the 54% female votes as a share of total votes, more than half supported Democrats at 57%. Women votes remain crucial and this is especially true for the Democrats coalition.

In all except 2 states, electoral votes were 'winner-takes-it-all'. The winning candidate normally obtained all of that state's electoral votes. However, Maine(ME) and Nebraska(NE) took a different approach with 'congressional district method'. This lead them to be considered as 'Split states' with the result, Maine ( DEM : 3, REP : 1 ) amd Nebraska ( DEM : 1, REP : 4 ).
